Turneffe Atoll, Belize - December 20, 2006
My second day of diving on the cruise was out of Belize, with Hugy
Parkey's Belize Dive Connection (a first rate operation, I must say).
Our dive boat, the Susie Q, was a great boat, with a wonderful captain, great
deck hand, and knowledgeable dive master. Overall, this was a FANTASTIC
day of diving. I was overwhelmed by the abundant life. For our two
dives, we headed to the Turneffe Atoll, which is about 45 minutes by boat from
Belize City. Our first dive was at "The Terrace." As the
name implies, there were some terraces (with nice walls, up to 50 feet or so)
for us to explore, with the shelf in about 30 fsw. Our second dive was at
"Chasbo's Corner." Here, as at the Terrace, there was a wall
(although this one was shorter) for us to explore, and a nice shelf, overflowing
in life. We even saw a (hawksbill?) Sea Turtle on this dive.
Very cool! On these dives, folks were complaining that the visibility
was "only 70 feet." Yes, the water was just a bit murky...but 70
feet! In Puget Sound, we think 15 feet is pretty good visibility. So
it was great diving!

said about my Cozumel pictures, these were my first pictures with my camera in
warm water...which is incredibly different than taking pictures in cold, murky
Puget Sound. So...I don't think they turned out all that great...but I
wanted to share them anyway.)
