Pacific Northwest Marine Life

As observed (and photographed) by Lowell

As a scuba diver, I'm able to observe life in two of the five kingdoms.  And, to be honest, I care a lot more about the animals I see than plants.  Click on the links below to find pages with information and pictures of the species I've seen and photographed within the Pacific Northwest (Puget Sound, Hood Canal, the San Juan Islands, Vancouver Island, the Straight of Juan de Fuca).  Since I'm a biology teacher, I've organized my pages based on the biological classification system.  Also, in the world of biology, classification of species sometimes change;  the information here is accurate to the best of my knowledge.   I also have an alphabetized list of all of my critter photos.  If you are a R.E.E.F. PNW Surveyor, I have the REEF PNW Critters here.  If you have any questions or comments about my classification, please e-mail me.  I also have higher resolution images for all of the photos.  Let me know if you're interested. Thank you for looking at my photography.   (Disclaimer:  Since these photos are intended for identification purposes, I have cropped many of the images here.  I have not, however, done any "photoshopping" of the pictures.)

Misc. Marine Life

For those pictures that are hard to classify, but still interesting to share.

Note:  Almost all of the taxonomic information comes from the following source:  Integrated Taxonomic Information System  Another great resource I used:  Marine Life of the Pacific Northwest, by Andy Lamb and Bernard Hanby.
