My Dive Gear
|
Equipment |
What I've Got |
|
Wet Suit and Hood |
In Puget Sound, a good wetsuit is a MUST. (OK, lots of people would argue that a good DRYsuit is a must.) I got mine custom-made at Harvey's. I wouldn't normally get something custom-made, but they don't make wetsuits you can buy off the shelf for people as big as me. It is a Dry-Flex Suit that has kept me warm so far. The coldest water I've been in to date is 47. |
|
BC |
ScubaPro KnightHawk BC with Air2. This was one of the few BCs I could find in a size big enough for me. It's very comfortable, and I like the back-inflate, as it doesn't constrict me like the jacket-style BC I used during my certification. My only complaint would be that it needs a pocket or two. |
|
Light |
Pelican LED (I forget the exact model.) And a light or two that we found on dives, but never found the owner. |
|
Regulator |
ScubaPro MK 25/S600 First Stage/Regulator Combo. |
|
Computer |
Uwatec SmartCom with Quick Disconnect. I really love this computer. It has made my diving better, by helping me focus on using less air while under water. I had already been logging my dives on SmartTrak, from Uwatec, so all of my dives now have a profile, etc. |
|
Tanks |
Worthington E-8 Steel HP 119s. Since I'm an air hog, I needed bigger tanks. Since I'm a big guy, carrying the extra weight of the tank wasn't a big deal. And I was able to drop some of the lead. All in all, a great way for me to go. I'm hoping to get one more tank, for those long dive days of summer. |
|
Camera |
Canon PowerShot A620, Canon WP-DC90 Housing. (Just purchased... Here's a gallery from my first dive with the new camera!) |
|
Future Plans? |
I'd like to dive with a pony at some point...for a completely redundant air source. That'll be a while, though. |
All of my dive gear has been purchased through
Underwater Sports
in Federal Way. (Well, not my camera...but everything else.) I always get fair prices, and they have taken good care of
me. I got certified here, and am taking AOW with Walt here also. I
would admit to being biased towards supporting the Local Dive Shop. I have
yet to find an Internet store that will fill my cylinders...and give me
personally drawn dive maps of local sites...and give updates on conditions at
local dives...I could go on. I just wish all of you could find a Local
Dive Shop as great as the one I go to. Are there bigger stores out there?
Sure. But they've gotten everything I wanted, even if it wasn't in-house.
